Motor Fuels Tax Rate Set through Dec. 31

The Nebraska motor fuels tax rate for July 1 through Dec. 31 is 25.8 cents per gallon. The tax rate decreased from its pre-July 26.8 cents per gallon. The July 1 through Dec. 31 tax consists of the following components:
-- 2.5 cents per gallon variable tax
-- 11.8 cents per gallon fixed tax
-- 11.5 cents per gallon wholesale tax.
The directof the Nebraska Department of Roads sets the variable percentage rate at an amount sufficient to ensure adequate funding for highway projects, including maintenace and improvements. This rate was 1.8 percent for July 1 through Dec. 31. This rate
was applied to the base price of fuel purchased by the state in April, establishing the July 1 through Dec. 31 variable motor fuels tax at 2.5 cents per gallon.
