Nebraska Ag Connection - 07/22/2016

The Annual Conference of the Northern Nut Growers Association will be held from July 31 through Aug. 3 at the National Arbor Day Foundation in Nebraska City.

The group will have presentations on many aspects of nut tree culture, including an organic chestnut orchard, an efficient irrigation system for hazelnut orchards, marketing strategies, home-built harvesting and handling equipment, diseases of black walnut and oak, pawpaw and persimmons growing, and cover crop selection for soil improvement. There will be break-out sessions focusing on a particular nut crop. At tours and social events participants will meet NNGA members who are located throughout Canada and the United States.

The indoor activities will be held at the beautiful Lied Lodge and Conference Center of the Arbor Day Foundation. This National Heritage Site comprises 260 acres. Kids (and grand kids) will have fun learning while they enjoy the tree house, swimming pool, and nature trails. Adults can treat themselves to a relaxing vacation in addition to meeting people who are passionate about growing nut trees. See www.liedlodge.org.
