Congressional Delegation Echoes Disaster Request

U.S. Senators Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) and Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) and Representatives Jeff Fortenberry (NE-01), Don Bacon (NE-02), and Adrian Smith (NE-03) wrote a letter to President Donald Trump in support of Governor Pete Ricketts' (R-Neb.) request for a major disaster declaration for the state of Nebraska. The request comes as a result of Winter Storm Xanto, which struck the state from April 13-18, 2018.
Thirty-one Nebraska counties suffered major damages due to the combination of warm temperatures in the days prior to the storm, high levels of precipitation, subsequent freezing, and strong winds. The inclement weather resulted in approximately $8,876,098 worth of damages across Nebraska. Approval of the disaster declaration would make federal assistance available to areas affected by the storm.
