Nebraska Ag Connection - 05/17/2023

Over 111 enthusiastic 2nd grade students from Dawes and Sheridan Counties in Nebraska were given the opportunity to immerse themselves in an interactive educational experience centered around the state's prominent industry: agriculture. The event took place on Wednesday, May 3rd, and welcomed students from Chadron, Crawford, Hay Springs, Gordon, and Rushville elementary schools.

Throughout the months of April and May, Nebraska Extension Staff, spanning the Panhandle region, organized a series of five AgSplosion school enrichment events, successfully engaging close to 700 youth. AgSplosion, an Agricultural Literacy Festival, aimed to teach young students about various aspects of agriculture, including corn, soybeans, pigs, dry edible beans, wheat, beef cattle, agricultural technology, potatoes, and dairy.

The material covered during the AgSplosion field day was highly relevant to the students' classroom curriculum, as noted by one of the teachers. Another teacher emphasized the significance of agriculture in their region, stating that it was crucial for students to understand its vital role not only in their state but also in the country.

AgSplosion was a successful program that brought together students, families, and educators to emphasize the importance of agriculture. Generous donations from organizations such as the Nebraska Wheat Board, Oshkosh Heifer Development, Walther Farms, Sheridan County Farm Bureau, Morrill County Farm Bureau, Cheyenne County Farm Bureau, and Nebraska Corn Board enabled students to engage in hands-on learning experiences.
