Ranch Horse Riders to Colorado this Weekend
Nebraska Ag Connection - 10/12/2018

Ten Aggies of the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture will represent the NCTA Ranch Horse Team at the two-day CSU "Silver Jubilee" in Colorado on Oct. 13 and 14.

This will be the second official team contest of the fall semester, said Huntra Christensen, team president.

The Aggie Ranch Horse team is coached by Joanna Hergenreder, NCTA assistant professor of animal science.

"The CSU show is new to the circuit this year as Northeastern Junior College paired with "Slidin Daze Enterprises" for the NJC Collegiate Comeback show that our NCTA team went to in September," explains Hergenreder.

"More colleges have decided to host shows developed in cooperation with Slidin Daze," Coach Hergenreder added.

Six riders will be competing in four categories in stock horse skills. These include ranch trail course, ranch pleasure, reining, and cow work. All students will compete for the All Around title.

Riders will be: Nichole Ackland, Martell; Madisyn Cutler, Wallace; Lennae Eisenmenger, Humphrey; Rebekah Miller, Basehor, Kansas; Damian Wellman, Prairie View, Kansas; and Carlee Stutz, Laporte, Colorado.

Four Aggies will be volunteers, support crew to the Aggie team, and freshmen learning the ropes of a collegiate contest, said Christensen, a third-year student in dual majors of agribusiness and equine management.

"I will be on the ground this time, helping the team wherever I am needed," she said. Christensen will be joined by Kate Shaw, Joes, Colorado; Brooklyn Becker, Beaver City; and Josh Milne, Hay Springs.

Students represent the Aggies in equine management, performance horse, and an array of academic majors.

The next team event will be a horsemanship and reining clinic with professional trainer Sherman Tegtmeier Nov. 10-11 at the indoor arena at NCTA.
